Overview

Course content and focus areas

The master's program in sports science with a focus on exercise science and sports medicine conveys well-founded scientific knowledge and methods from the areas of sports medicine, exercise physiology, training and movement science, nutrition and sports psychology.

The sports science disciplines mentioned work empirically, i.e. it is systematically observed, measured and analyzed, primarily the conditions and behavior of people using methods that ensure their results through reproducibility and replicability and pursue the goal of working out regularities. The broad education in the sports science disciplines enables graduates to work independently and scientifically and to be able to successfully tackle the tasks in the later professional fields. The focus of this course is the detailed scientific analysis of human physiology and pathophysiology required for this. Accompanying this is the corresponding methodological knowledge for diagnostics and exercise control. This applies both to the area of exercise intervention in the context of prevention and rehabilitation and to the area of competitive sports.
The successful completion qualifies for later activities in various areas of sport and related areas, for which a solid scientific education and an application-oriented sports medicine, performance physiology and training science specialization are required. In a constantly changing professional field, these areas include e.g. Sports clubs, sports associations, sports administrations, commercial sports providers, freelance coaching, course instructor and supervisor activities, sports and exercise therapy in prevention and rehabilitation as well as health insurance.

The master's program also serves to prepare for a subsequent doctorate. In addition to the above-mentioned scientific qualifications, key qualifications are imparted, which are equally important for professional advancement, and guarantee qualifications for demanding fields of activity in science, industry and practice.
